Nutrition – How do you finally create success through good habits as it pertains to nutrition?
Whenever I mention nutrition coaching to potential clients one of the first questions I am asked is what do the meal plans look like? How restrictive are they? First of all, I rarely create meal plans. The reason for that is that they are very difficult to follow and only about 1 out of every 10 people are actually able to stay with a meal plan. I can create the Mona Lisa of all meal plans but if you cannot stick to them what good are they? That is why I coach habits. Good habits will be the recipe for achieving your weight loss and/or muscle building goals. No matter what anyone tells you eating healthy is a skill and skills are not mastered in a day or a week or just because you “really” want to do it. I am talking about skills or habits like planning your shopping trips, choosing the right items from the grocery and storing and preparing the food properly. Learning how to make better choices at restaurants along with strategies for not going overboard in social situations. Then combine them with behaviors surrounding you’re eating habits such as eating a little slower, paying attention to hunger and appetite cues and asking yourself questions like “am I really hungry or am I eating out of habit?” Focus on creating good habits, be patient when it comes to mastering them and don’t beat yourself up for moments of weakness here and there. We all experience them; every day is a brand-new opportunity for success!
